CodeRx Open
CodeRx Open is a free version of the CodeRx Drug Database. It contains every active, prescribable drug, the NDCs for those drugs, and their drug classes — already cleaned, joined, and ready to query.
Tell us a bit about your use case and we'll email you the download link.
What's included
| Data mart | What you get |
|---|---|
| Drugs | Drug products with names, RXCUIs, dose forms, and strengths |
| Packages | NDCs mapped to drug products with package descriptions |
| Classes | Drug classification systems for therapeutic aggregation |
Data is delivered as CSV and Parquet files, using the same schema and column names documented throughout these docs. Anything you learn against CodeRx Open carries over directly to Enterprise.
What's different from Enterprise
CodeRx Open is a limited yearly snapshot, scoped so you can evaluate and prototype without a subscription:
- Updated once per year. Enterprise refreshes weekly and includes dated snapshots so you can track changes over time.
- Active, prescribable products only. Obsolete, unapproved, and non-prescribable products are filtered out.
- Three data marts, limited columns. Ingredients, excipients, synonyms, pricing, packaging details, label images, indications, Part D plans, and e-prescribing mappings are Enterprise-only.
See Pricing to compare Open and Enterprise, or Getting Started for how Enterprise access works.
Working with the data
The tutorials and concept docs apply to CodeRx Open as-is. A good starting point:
- Working with Packages — NDC formats and how packages relate to drug products
- Working with Drugs — drug naming, RXCUIs, and brand-to-generic relationships
